Summary of the role

The ECF’s Poland Programme currently accepts applications for an experienced and highly driven communications professional to join its Warsaw-based team for 10 months in 2018. This maternity leave cover offers a unique opportunity for an individual with a sincere interest in climate change and its solutions to work within a talented team and play an active role in ensuring a successful COP24 in Poland.

Duties and responsibilities

The Strategic Communications Associate Poland will be responsible for:

  • Co-developing ECF’s COP24 communications strategy together with the ECF’s Poland Programme and its Strategic Communications Team
  • Helping coordinate the foundations’ COP24 strategy development with its large network of local and international partners
  • Operationalising and implementing the ECF’s communications strategy in the run up to and at COP24, in close cooperation with the ECF’s Poland and Strategic Communications Programmes as well as a tight network of domestic partners and experts in the international climate diplomacy space
  • As part of the above, co-developing a structure of workflows for a global network of communications experts, from narrative development, to outreach strategy development and intelligence sharing
  • As part of the above, working to enhance the communications capacity of the Polish climate community and carrying out hands-on pitching and communications work to fill any capacity gaps
  • In addition to the above, accompanying the wider work of ECF’s Poland Programme to inject a communications perspective into strategy development and provide outreach support to key partners and priority grants
  • Participating in the wider work of the foundations’ Strategic Communications Team to strengthen the media debate around key aspects of climate change and its solutions, in particular the areas of the energy transformation, just transition, climate impacts and finance.
  • Staying on top of the political and media debate in Poland, sharing insights with colleagues and adapting strategies in light of developments

Key competencies and characteristics

  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF
  • 5+ years of professional communications experience, including some experience in political campaigning, public or non-governmental sector
  • Outstanding convening, coordination and organisational skills
  • A strong understanding of Polish policy-making and public debates around climate change and its solutions
  • Knowledge of the processes and dynamics in the UNFCCC welcome
  • Experience in working with journalists in Poland
  • Ability to work effectively in highly pressured environments
  • Excellent Polish and English language skills (both spoken and written)
  • Vision, confidence and a strong service orientation are key to this role
